As a rapper, his songs often detailed the misery, desperation, and violence of ghetto life. As a personality, he easily embodied the false bravado and urban nonchalance that reflected a tough, unforgiving upbringing. As an actor, he was good-looking and charismatic, and his appearances in five feature films suggested he had great potential on the big screen in a variety of personas. But Shakur never had time to realize any of these embodiments. On Sept. 7, 1996, he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on a neon-lit gambling strip in downtown Las Vegas. He died six days later as a result of those wounds. He was 25. With a career that would span almost a decade, Eazy became the mark of excellence in gangsta rap, but as with all success comes a price. Eazy would rise above many obstacles that would kill just an average person, and tasted the fruits of his labor until his untimely demise. Their rise commenced in '93 when they scraped up every penny they had for one-way bus tickets to Los Angeles. It wasn't until they hooked up with their departed mentor, Eazy-E, that things began rollin'. Eazy-E returned a call to Bone in L.A. where they auditioned for him over the phone. He was impressed but the deal wasn't done until a short time later when the former NWA leader was doing a show in Cleveland. Bone immediately headed back home and gave a back stage audition in person.
